Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’s popular annual abseil is back on Saturday 11 March and the charity is looking for plucky participants take part in support of its children and young people.

In 2016, over 100 supporters braved the challenge at the One Snow Hill building near to the hospital, raising an incredible £34,000 in total.

This year, the charity’s ninth sponsored abseil is returning to Birmingham landmark – the 100ft tall Fort Dunlop building – and it’s hoped the event will be bigger and better than previous years, enabling the charity to continue to do more for the sick kids in its care.

Jason Wall, father to 11-year-old Reece, is among 45 others who have already pledged to take the plunge this March, after his son was admitted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital in 2015 with two brain tumours.

Inspired by Reece’s incredible care throughout his chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, Jason commented: “Reece has grown up to be a very brave and loving young man and I couldn’t be more proud. I really can’t thank the hospital enough for the care he has received – taking part in this abseil is just a small token of my family’s gratitude.”

Annie Eytle, Acting Events and Regional Fundraising Manager at the hospital, added: “This is the perfect opportunity to tick something off your bucket list whilst raising money for our wonderful hospital and we’re so grateful to everyone who has already signed up, including daring dad Jason.

“If you’d like to join him and take part in the experience of a lifetime, we’d encourage you to register soon before it’s too late! Your support will make a real difference to the services we provide to our young people and their families during difficult times.”

Registration is £30 per person and a minimum sponsorship fee of £75 applies. Each abseiler will also be allocated a one-hour time slot prior to the event.
